A "hyggelig" Day

Today was a perfect New England fall day. The sun was out and it was warm, but not humid. The air was crisp and fresh, the colors vibrant. The trees are beginning to turn, slowly changing their green leaves into splendid gowns of reds, yellows and oranges.
I adore this season with it's spectacular coloring and inherent "coziness." Candles, hot chocolate, Halloween decorations, upcoming holidays - it all adds up to a Danish word that is missing from most other languages - "hygge" - a calm state of being comfortable and content, doing quiet things you enjoy with people you care about.

Schools were out for Yom Kippur and as the boys and I were out doing errands, we passed a pumpkin patch with free hayrides. We then went home and unpacked our Halloween decorations, cleaned a bit in the basement, negotiated a deal to leave the pumpkins whole (the way I like them) until tomorrow when they are carved (the way the boys like them...), went to the farmers' market and the playground and then made lasagna for dinner. A great day!!
So here's to our impromptu hayride and pumpkin picking, to sunshine and the color orange, to fall, candles and the beauty of New England.

Fyns Hoved

On this rainy fall day I thought it would be appropriate to finally edit and post a few pictures from warmer summer days. This is Fyns Hoved - the most northern tip of the island I am from.

Big Boys

I caught S and L looking adorable and way too grown up a few Saturdays ago. They were heading over for lunch with their grandma and great-grandpa.

We are also having an onslaught of homework from school at the moment. While I'm certain it will get old very fast and I do feel it's a bit excessive to have so much homework in 1st grade, I still choked up at the thought of my little boy being old enough to do homework. (Is there an equation out there that can prevent this event from implying that I am getting older too?)

Reasons and Excuses

I have been neglecting my blog in the past few months. I have many excuses - tiredness, traveling, head colds, nausea, plain old busyness, did I mention tiredness?...
Mostly it comes down to one little reason, though; currently growing and causing most of the excuses - although I suppose I can't blame her for neither traveling nor head colds and being busy...

With that, we are so excited to announce the future arrival of Baby Posner #3, due date January 22 2010:

Upon Request

After many requests, I am finally getting around to these pictures. As you may know, we had a...few issues with our home and regular house projects were put on hold while we fought with the more pressing stuff.
However, a few months ago, my amazing father-in-law took on our outdated living room wall unit and completely changed the look of the room.

This is what we had before: (shelves and books removed):

During construction:

And finally - After:

I should mention that my father-il is not a carpenter by trade. He is just incredibly talented; the entire unit is designed and built by him. He also helped us paint, he changed the electrical outlets and he put up new crown moldings. I cannot thank him enough. So, here it is, very publicly:

THANK YOU DAD!!!

Off and Running

We're home and life has kicked into high gear. Cleaning, weeding (the weeds have used the rainy summer to completely take over the yard), errands, appointments and most importantly - school. S is now a first grader. He bikes to school most days with E or I, and is just such a ridiculously big boy.
My brain is still trying to catch up to the fact that he is in elementary school, let alone already done with the first year. Luckily, he is preserving a slight bit of little-boy-essence and suddenly loves to cuddle at night. I swear, I just blinked and suddenly, he's 6.
